May Favorites!

Thursday, May 29, 2014

So since we are quickly approaching the month of June, I thought it would be time to throw together some favorites that I've been loving this month. I have separated them into two parts, beauty and fashion. May was a pretty good month. I finished school for the semester, I started working full time at my restaurant job, which means more income (which means more clothes), and the weather has finally started to perk up. I was going to make a video stating all my favorites, but by the time I got around to it, it would probably already be June. I could do a video maybe tomorrow?! It's hard because my camera does not have a viewfinder, so I sort of have to wing it. Anyways, on to the favorites!

may faves

So these are my beauty favorites for the month of May! I'll go clockwise, starting with the top left!

  • The Ole Henriksen wipes are AMAZING. I started using them after I would use a make-up wipe to take off my make-up. They are great for exfoliation and cleanse my skin. A couple of days after using them by skin cleared RIGHT up. I kid you not, my face was zit-free. I think it was because I wasn't exfoliating and cleansing enough. These babies took care of that, got rid of all my grease and dirt lodged under my skin and now my face is clear as anything. LOVE.

  • Next is the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in moodlight. I really do love this powder. It gives my face such a pretty glow when applied right above my cheekbones and down my nose. You do need to be careful with how much product you are using with this powder though because since it is a lavender tinted powder, it will literally turn your face purple.

  • Next is the First Aid Beauty Anti-Redness Serum. I do have a very fair skin tone, and it gets blotchy easily. I picked up this serum a while ago and started putting a dab on before I went to bed, and before I put my moisturizer on, and it does wonders. My skin tone has definitely gotten way less blotchy and red.

  • For nail-polishes, my favorite this month BY FAR is Essie's Go Ginza. I've talked about it before, and I just can't get enough. It's such a beautiful lilac color with hints of blue. It's currently on my toes and I love just looking down and seeing how pretty the color is when it hits sunlight!

  • I've been looking for a good liquid eyeliner FOREVER. This month, my favorite is the Stila Stay All Day liquid eyeliner. It has a felt tip, and applying is very easy. I'm still learning on how to create the perfect cat-eye, but this is definitely aiding in my learning

  • Next is my beloved Tarte Amazonian Clay foundation. I LOVE this stuff. It's full-coverage, and has SPF in it. I seriously only need a tiny bit because it spreads beautifully. It really does last all day long and it covers up my spots and blotchiness wonderfully. I will definitely be re-purchasing.

  • My favorite blush of the month is the Bobbi Brown Nude Pink blush. It's a beautiful shade and looks great on my fair skin tone. It blends beautifully over my foundation and gives my cheeks the perfect hint of color to make me look like a living person in the morning.

  • My last beauty favorite is the Elizabeth and James Nirvana White perfume. Ugh, I love this scent. It's lovely. I roll it on my neck and wrists every morning, and the scent lasts all day long. The musky peony scent is divine.

Now onto my fashion favorites!

may fashion faves

It was a lot harder coming up with just a few fashion favorites. I feel like I never really stick to one thing for too long, so I couldn't distinctly remember anything I've worn non-stop.

Anyways, going clockwise from the top left....

  • These jeans are probably the one item in the bunch that are definitely a "favorite" this month. They are from Zara and were $59.90. I think I've worn them probably 20 out of the 29 days we've had in May so far. They are super comfortable and are ripped in all the right places. I love rolling them at the bottom and they look good with ANYTHING. I've worn them in a couple of outfit posts as well.

  • Next, you'll recognize the trench from my "Rainy Day Chic" post a while back. I love this trench so much. I actually wore it yesterday. I paired it with some plain black J Brand Jeans, a Club Monaco button down cotton shirt, a heather grey knit, and my beloved Marc Jacobs strappy sandals. The trench is from Zara as well and set me back $140, but I LOVE IT. You can pair this bad boy with anything and you automatically look chic. It's definitely become a staple in my wardrobe.

  • Next, are a new pair. My last post was actually about how I bought these all-white leather converse, but I couldn't not include them. I got them and they are PERFECTION. I purchased them at Urban Outfitters, but I'm sure you can get them at many other e-commerce sites. They are monochrome, and just lovely. I am so excited to pair them with those Zara boyfriend jeans.

  • Next are my favorite heels of the month. I had been searching for minimal strappy heels for FOREVER. I have looked high and low for the perfect pair that wouldn't set me back more than $100. I love love loved the Stuart Weitzman version of these heels, but just couldn't spend $400. I finally found these on DailyLook and it was love at first site! They look exactly like the Stuart ones and only cost me $30! What a steal!

  • Next are my beloved Miu Miu's. I actually got these last March when I was in Miami. I wanted a pair of round sunglasses and when I stepped into the Miu Miu store at the Bal Harbour shops, I knew I found my pair. They were SUPER expensive at $369, but worth every penny. I wear them often, and they seriously add such an edge to anything I'm wearing. They are so fun, but neutral because of the bronze color. Love them!

  • My final fashion favorite of May is my beloved knit crop top from Club Monaco. I would wear this everyday if I could. It's perfection. It hits me at just the right spot, and makes me look like I can actually pull off a crop top. I love how it's knit, because it's a different texture, and I love mixing textures. It was $98.50, which is steep, especially for half a shirt, but I know it will be kept in my wardrobe forever.

WOW, that was probably the longest post I've ever done! I will probably be back with a outfit post tomorrow!

Converse

Yes, I already have a pair of black high tops and a pair of navy blue low tops. These are different. These are all white LEATHER chucks. Have you ever seen a pair of Converse more appealing? I haven't. Maybe except the MMM X Converse collab that would set you back about $250. I think these are just as appealing. I love that they're leather and I can't WAIT to pair them with some boyfriend jeans. I will do an outfit post with them as soon as I receive them!

Happy Memorial Day!

Monday, May 26, 2014

So I just stuffed down a ton of BBQ along with some delicious potato salad and grilled corn. Man, it was delicious. I hope everyone is having a great Memorial Day Weekend! I know I did! On Friday, I relaxed at home to get some down time in. On Saturday I went to Boston Calling which is a huge music festival here in Boston every May and September. I have gone to every single one so far and they're a lot of fun. I drank, ate and listened to awesome music. My friends and I ended up going home early on Saturday though after dinner, because we were seriously too drunk to function, haha. We ordered a bottle of Prosecco at dinner between the three of us, and left basically a full bottle of it with three full glasses. We just couldn't get through it. On Sunday, we had a DELICIOUS brunch at North Street Grille. We got a carafe of mimosa's, Nutella french toast sticks (!!!!) and eggs benedict. It left me so full but so satisfied. We then headed over to the festival and drank and ate some more. We ended up seeing Tegan and Sara, along with Bastille, who was AMAZING. We wanted to stay for Brand New and Modest Mouse, but we were just all so burnt out. Today, I am just hanging out with family and stuffing my face with barbecue! Here's an outfit I put together that would look great to go out to brunch in or even just a casual get together with family and friends....

Current Obsessions...

obsessions

Two things.... 1. I hate current obsessions because I just wanna buy instead of talking about them, and 2. These items will now haunt me in my sleep until I buy them,

That being said, these are just some items I've been looking at for the last week or so. The cropped pants are everything. They're on sale at Barney's for $111. I was thinking to myself how good the cropped pants, crop top and heels would look together. (sigh) I might purchase the crop top soon because it is literally only $20, which is such a good deal. I'm also obsessed with the shoes. I've been eyeing them FOREVER, and just don't have the gut to order them. They're $110. That isn't even expensive for shoes, but my bills this month are outrageously high. (sigh, again) I am also loving the phone case by Rifle Paper Co. It's so cute and you can never go wrong with a Paris themed phone case, haha. And of course I love the fedora but jesus I can not justify spending $200 on a felt hat. I love you Rag and Bone but your prices are REEEEdiculous. So I will be at Boston Calling all weekend and will hopefully still be alive by Monday!

Recent Beauty Buys

Recently

So I went to Sephora today and went a tad overboard. I literally went in for more concealer, and for a Chloe perfumed deodorant I wanted to try. No deodorant, but I came out with some goodies! I've been wanting to try anything for Ole Henrikson for a while. I see their products on Youtube constantly and wanted to try the brand out. My pores aren't in the best shape, so I picked the oil-free pore refining wipes. I don't have oily skin, it's mostly dry, but these will help with the size of my pores and will absorb any pore-clogging dirt for fresher looking skin. I'll use my make-up wipes to remove my make-up, then will use one of the Ole Henrikson wipes to cleanse and exfoliate all in one step.
I also bought more of my beloved Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer. It's my absolute favorite concealer and I wear it every single day. It's great for covering up spots or under-eye bags. I'm obsessed. I actually just ordered a Bobbi Brown concealer to try out as well. So I'll report back on that.
Next, I picked up the Stila Stay All Day liquid eyeliner. I've heard dozens of people raving about this eyeliner, so I decided to pick it up. I tried it on my hand at the store and it's the deepest, darkest black. I love it. The felt tip is perfect for creating a winged liner look, which I have been really into lately.
Then I went for an Hourglass Ambient Lighting powder. I've also heard so much about these powders and decided to swatch some in store. I swatched the mood light color, and the ethereal light color. The ethereal powder was too sparkly for me. The mood light was a lavender color with tones of light pink, and I couldn't say no to it. The powder is seriously so smooth on the skin. It was super pricey at $45, but I think it will be worth every penny.
The last thing I bought was a new roll-on fragrance. I love Mary Kate and Ashley, I love Elizabeth and James, and I certainly love The Row. These girls are fashion and style geniuses and I religiously follow their every move in fashion. When I heard they were coming out with two fragrances, I knew I had to have at least one. I got the Nirvana White. The packaging alone would make me buy it. The bottles are beautiful, but I am on a budget, so I went with the rollerball. Nirvana White is very floral. It is described as a peony musk. Peonies being my favorite flower, how could I resist?

I know I went overboard! What are some recent beauty buys of your own?!

#OOTD

Hey Everyone!

This is just an outfit of the day post. The pictures aren't outstanding since I literally snapped them as the sun was going down. I should have used to flash and I didn't. They're alright, but not as good as they could be. I love this outfit. I especially love this crop top. It's sleeveless and knit, and just perfect. It would look good with a skirt or some shorts with strappy sandals. I am going to Boston Calling this weekend and will definitely be wearing it!

Recent Buy: Torn by Ronny Kobo

Friday, May 16, 2014

I know my blog is unconventional. I'm not one of those "cutesy" blogs I feel. The ones that do regular segments and post almost every single day. This blog is SUCH a creative outflow for me and is one place where I feel I can be myself. I feel like I'm talking to myself somewhat and just letting out ideas and feelings that I can't really talk with about anyone else. Not that I don't have friends to talk too, but I think these creative ideas and thoughts about fashion bore other people. Anyways, wow, I am really rambling.

THIS. I picked this up today in a little boutique in the North End. It's Torn and I love it. I was really iffy about the peplum, but I want to make it work. I think peplum is such a cute idea but I get confused as to wear it with. I probably wouldn't wear it with a skirt because I don't get dressed up too often, but I am trying to find good pants to go with this. I love the mosaic print and the color is outrageous. I literally own maybe 1 other green shirt so this was a good oppurtunity. It was crazy on sale too.

Off to drink strawberry moscato with myself and shoe shop online.

Lazy Days.

Thursday, May 15, 2014

We all have them. I think I have them more than most. I'm such an introvert. I seriously can't be around people too long before I start to go a little crazy. I love to unwind in my bedroom with some lit candles, a nice book,  or possibly some Netflix...

After a long day at work, or even just a creative day in my bedroom where I'm searching for inspiration I love to light some candles. I'm not a big fan of buying super expensive candles, because they're just scented wax?! I would love a Diptyque candle, but I can't justify spending $60+ on something like that. I would rather buy shoes :). Anyways, I have been LOVING Target for my candle supply. They have so many varieties and there are two I have been obsessed with....

Candles

They both smell AMAZING. I love lilacs. My dad actually just picked me some fresh ones, so those are making my room smell fresh for now, but when they die I can't wait to light up the candles again!

After a day dealing with annoying people (like my job requires) I like to just sit in bed and read. I have been buying a lot of books recently, but it's hard to try and find time to read. Sometimes I just love watching some Netflix, or hanging out with my boyfriend instead. I have been reading a lot lately and here are two I've been going back and forth with...

Books
The Sartorialist is a GREAT book for inspiration. Scott Schuman captures so many iconic people and  looks throughout this book. He captures the personas of people in Italy, France and New York. It's very interesting to look through. I've also been trying to finish Grace Coddington's memoir. It's very long, but so interesting. It's definitely a book I hate putting down, but when you're reading till 3 AM, there's decisions to be made.

One last thing I like to do on a lazy/lonely day in dress comfortably. You will definitely not see me in my bedroom with jeans and a silk blouse on. When I'm alone and looking for inspiration, it's all about comfort. Recently, the company COS opened up their American e-commerce site. Before, they only shipped to Europe. I checked out the site and picked up a beautiful bralette and a relaxed sweater dress to wear on my lazy days...

COS

I hate wearing bras in general, so I've been really into lace bralettes which are very comfy. I can also get away with wearing them because my chest isn't that large. I also have been in the market for a sweater dress for a while. I really wanted this sweater dress from The Reformation, but I decided to save a few dollars and go with the COS one instead, which I think I like a little more anyways. I know I'll be able to wear it with summer coming up because Massachusetts weather is completely unpredictable. I could pair it with strappy sandals for a nighttime look. Anyways, I plan on rocking these pieces while cozied up in my bed reading with some candles burning. Also, since COS introduced new shipping to America, they are giving all American consumers 25% off their entire order with the code HELLOAMERICA. What a score!

What are some of your lazy day must-haves?!

Elegantly Simple

Tuesday, May 13, 2014

So as you might have guessed....

I haven't really been into making videos or doing those cute little blog posts I used to make. I mean sure, I love doing them every once in a while, but ideas are hard to come by. I've been loving these outfit posts though. This look was inspired by Danielle of WeWoreWhat. She posted an outfit a couple of weeks back that is very similar, and I loved it. It's so simple, but chic at the same time. A crisp, white button down and a pair of good heels can take you further than you think...

Rainy Day Chic

Friday, May 9, 2014

Wow. This blog has been deeply ignored. I have been so busy with finals week, that I haven't even had a minute to post anything, let alone snap some pictures. I've been trying to gather ideas that I want to post, and some outfits I would like photographed. My internship is FINALLY over and school is just about wrapped up, which means I'll have plenty of time for this blog. I always make excuses as to why I've been neglecting writing and I hate that. Someday, I want to be taken seriously in the fashion industry, so I'm going to start acting like I want to be!

Anyways, I live in Boston, and man is it crappy out today. Figures, my one day off from studying and work this week and it is disgusting outside.

Trench : Zara | Blouse : Vince | Necklace : H&M | Shorts: H&M | Sandals : Target (love these even more than regular Birkenstocks!) | Bag: Mansur Gavriel | Nails : Bougainvillea by Proenza Schouler X MAC | Lip : #13 Rouge Volupte by YSL |

I realize my legs aren't even just pale, they are pink. I need to self tan myself ASAP. That's what a long winter does to you I guess. My mom and I just went outside my house and started snapping some pictures in front of this pretty blossom tree across the street. It was sort of embarrassing trying to take pictures while cars were coming down the street, hence the funny picture up top.
